The Auction Expert Selling Guide
#1 Antiques &
Collectibles
The term "antique" covers a broad
range of items with one thing in common: age. Nearly anything
can be an antique if it's old enough, from fine furniture and
fancy jewelry to primitive tools and handmade cookware.
There's no standard for how old an item must be in order to be
considered antique, but in general items made in the 1940s or
earlier qualify.
Items from the 1950s to the present
are typically called "collectibles". This category includes
everything from Hummel figurines to Hallmark ornaments to
those glass swans and porcelain poodles your grandmother
collected. Fiesta dishes, salt and pepper shakers, even Elvis
memorabilia and kitschy souvenir ashtrays are all
collectibles.
The Auction Expert accepts a wide range of
antique and collectible items, so long as they meet the
following criteria:
- The item must have an estimated eBay value of at least
$50. Uncertain what it's worth? Call us and
we'll look it up for you.
- The item must not be restricted
by eBay.
Factors that can affect the
value of your item include:
- how well-known the artist/manufacturer is
- whether the item is "one of a kind" or part of a limited
edition series
- whether the item has a maker's mark or comes with a
Certificate of Authenticity (COA)
- how old the item is
- what material it's made of
- the condition of the item (Has it been used? Is it clean
and free from chips, cracks, or other forms of damage? Has
it been displayed carefully or stored properly?)
- whether it comes with its original packaging and
accessories
So whether it's Belleek porcelain,
Disney souvenirs, Zippo lighters, or old political
memorabilia, we'd love to take a look at your treasures!
