The Auction Expert Selling Guide
#8 Home Decor, Housewares
& Linens
"Home Decor" includes many
different types of decorative and functional items, such as
lighting, clocks, candleholders, vases, mirrors, and
seasonal/holiday decorations.
"Housewares" is a huge
category that covers all sorts of items: dishes, glassware,
tableware, cookware, utensils, and more.
"Linens"
includes tablecloths, napkins, placemats, dish towels, bath
towels, bed sheets, comforters, quilts, curtains, draperies,
handkerchiefs, dresser scarves, and more.
The Auction Expert
accepts items in these categories that meet our criteria:
- The item must have an estimated eBay value of at least
$50. Multiple items may be sold together as a lot in order
to increase their value.
- Previously used items must be cleaned, with the
exception of very old, fragile items that could be damaged
by cleaning.
- Lights, clocks, and other small appliances must be in
good working order, OR be old/rare enough to be valuable to
collectors.
We won't accept items that are
significantly soiled or damaged.
Older items tend to
sell well - lots of people collect things like vintage
salt-and-pepper shakers, or are looking for a 1960s-era lamp
to complement their retro furnishings.
For linens,
those with popular or unusual designs sell the best. Vintage
pieces by well-known designers, as well as new or nearly-new
items from high-end designers like Ralph Lauren, Calvin Klein,
Donna Karan, and even some mid-range retailers like Pottery
Barn, also do well.
